You may think it’s impossible to earn a 6-figure salary without a college degree in this day and age, but I’m here to tell you it’s absolutely possible – and there are many people already doing it. Start browsing through our list below to learn more about 8 different jobs that pay $100,000 or more that you can do without a college degree.
#1: Web/Mobile Developer
Web and mobile developers are in such high demand that the last thing employers care about is a college degree. There are countless companies out there that have money and ideas, but not enough developer talent to complete their projects. This is a field that is considered “self-taught” – if you can learn to develop websites and mobile applications, you will no doubt become in high demand either through your own business or a web/mobile development agency.
With the organic food, health food and exercise revolution that has taken place in recent decades, nutritionists are in high demand. People are willing to spend just about anything on their health and wellness, so if you’re able to provide them with sound advice, you’re going to be well on your way to earning 6 figures or more per year. You would of course need to maintain a healthy, balanced lifestyle yourself and invest in some professional certification courses, books on nutrition, exercise and more.
#3: Real Estate Broker
A real estate broker is one of the top professions for those who never went to college or didn’t finish their degree. It’s essentially a sales position that requires some professional courses and certification, but after that, it’s all up to you. The sky is the limit in real estate – the more you sell, the more commission you make on your sales. Top residential and commercial real estate brokers easily make upwards of 6-figures per year.
#4: Sales Manager
Sales is another position that doesn’t necessarily require a college degree in order to be hired or to rise to a top-level position. Companies hire salespeople simply to sell – if you can sell, you make the company more money and you make more money for yourself. There are plenty of entry level sales positions for those without college degrees. You can start by selling just about anything – from home improvement services to cleaning products. Once you get a little experience, you’ll be able to move up within the same organization or start to apply for higher level positions at different companies.
Sales is another one of those fields where the sky is the limit and you’re responsible for your own destiny – the more you sell, the more you make. Examples of high paying sales fields include software sales, IT/networking, real estate, commercial/industrial products, medical supplies and pharmaceuticals.
#5: Commercial Pilot
If you want to become a commercial pilot, you don’t have to have a college degree, but you will have to take several certification courses and log many hours of flying experience. But if this is a career you’re interested in pursuing, just know that you don’t need a college degree to one day become a commercial pilot. Pilots that fly for commercial airlines can easily command 6-figure salaries with excellent benefits, free travel and lots of paid time off.
#6: Small Business Owner
Small business owners can make 6-figure salaries a variety of different ways, and you don’t necessarily need a lot of money to start a business. You can build a small business that is internet-based, like an eCommerce website, for a small investment. Or, you can look to the Small Business Administration for a SBA loan to start your business.
eCommerce and internet-based businesses are probably the lowest risk and highest potential for you to succeed. Other ideas include retail stores with a focus on popular hobbies including exercise, outdoor hobbies, cycling and more.
#7: HVAC Repair Technician
HVAC – short for Heating, Venting and Air Conditioning – repair technicians are always going to be in high demand. As long as homes need heating and cooling, they’re going to need an HVAC technician for sales, installation, repair and maintenance. Get certified through a trade school or other professional trade organization to begin your career. Then you can make the choice to start your own business or work for an established one.
#8: Internet Marketing Consultant
Internet marketing is still considered a relatively new field, and even though colleges have begun to offer courses in internet marketing, it’s largely considered a field that is based on experience and results and not degrees. You can start by marketing your own websites, getting an internship or applying for an entry-level position to learn the field. Then you can choose to become an Internet Marketing Consultant with your own business, or at a higher level for a marketing agency.
